![]() The song tells of someone who is trapped in some web because of what she feels or is made to feel by the other party and chooses to dwell on that rather than the bad that’s lurking. ![]() But when you do start to analyse the lyrics and take into account the movie to which the song is a soundtrack, you come to realize that there is nothing healthy about the relationship. On first hearing, it does sound like a beautiful love song, like she loves the way he loves her and couldn’t ask for more. I have to agree with the author on this one. And there you have it, what I think about the lyrics to abuse me like you do. Maybe I’m reading way too much into these lines, but that’s what I enjoy doing. This gets even better, she can’t even wait until he starts taking control, and probably not for the first time. Letting someone have control over the situation your in because they know better about the situation and you trust them is one thing, but letting someone take control because you aren’t quite sure of your own sanity, which includes your choice to stay in the relationship, isn’t a very bright idea. This doesn’t sound like anything that’s going to end up very well. What more evidence do you need to think that this may not be healthy at all? She wants to hand over all control to him, because she knows that’s her thinking is not quite right at the moment. My head’s spinning around I can’t see clear no more Being in a place that is filled with both risk and pleasure maybe what’s causing her to fade in and out of reality. What’s ironic here is that she’s on the edge of paradise, “a very beautiful, pleasant, or peaceful place that seems to be perfect”. ![]() I don’t think ‘on the edge of paradise’ is a common phrase, but to be ‘on the edge’ means to be “ in a precarious position also, in a state of keen excitement, as from danger or risk”. Some of the lyrics sound like part of any other regular love song, and I’ve conveniently left these out. The entire lyrics are about what she (the abused, in my opinion) feels about the abuser, who has ‘swept her off her feet’ and with whom she seems to be in love. If giving the lyrics a meaning like that would ruin the song for you, you might want to stop reading here. My interpretation really has nothing to do with fifty shades of grey, because I have neither read the books or seen the movie, but from what I’ve heard about the story, it does seem related. I actually think its about someone who’s in an abusive relationship but is too addicted to the elated feeling to really see the abuse. ![]() The song was written by Max Martin, Savan Kotecha, Ilya Salmanzadeh, Ali Payami and Tove Lo.īefore I start, I’ll need to warn you that I don’t think of this lyric as some lovey-dovey romantic song. As a lot of you might know “ Love Me like You Do” is a song recorded by Ellie Goulding for the soundtrack to the film Fifty Shades of Grey (2015). ![]()
